Do I Need My Own Solicitor When Remortgaging?
When remortgaging, a solicitor/conveyancer will be required. Their job is in ‘simple terms’ to request funds from new lender, pay off existing lender, and update land registry regarding the change to title deeds (change in mortgage provider).
Who pays the cost of this essentially depends on what deal is most suited to you. Many lenders will offer a ‘fees assisted’ package, whereby they will cover the basic costs of remortgaging, and will even appoint a solicitor firm for you. However, sometimes the cheapest package may be a deal without this option. If so, most will offer a ‘cashback’ to help cover costs - but this is why a broker is so important.
